My intial thoughts of Dangeki Daisy while veiwing it: ahh must be some other overrated, cliche shoujo manga with a trashy storyline.
And now, after reading it, I shall repent for my sins commited earlier.
The storyline was so different, extremely unlike the typical shoujo mangas. What I didn't expect were the frequent plot twists occuring throughout the story. It was not very predictable and had great mystries. It had some predictable moments but they were rather cute and funny.
Firstly, the characters. They were very entertaining with great personalities and back stories. From Andou san to the deceased Souichiro, ALL the characters, were detailed and had fantastic back stories. They were all very lively throughout the story with matching personalities, given the situation.
As for our Female Lead, Teru Kurebayashi, who would be another whiny, weak and a cry baby, I had thought. She was such a strong-willed, independant, brave and kind character. At sixteen, she was on her own, living with her own expenses, attending a high school she got into with a scholarship. There were some situations, I feel, where she acted helpless and could've been smarter or stronger but chose waited for kurosaki's protection which kinda annoyed me but it was bearable considering the fact that she was a shoujo manga female lead.
Then our Male Lead, Tasuku Kurosaki. He had feelings, fears and expectations like a normal human being despite being a fictional character. He was beleivabale and not just someone with only good looks and a great personality. He was an ordinary person with a job and made mistakes like usual.
From the start, you will find yourself shipping these two and will continue until the end. It was pretty fun to see a romantic relationship develop between a shy sixteen year old high school girl and a sly, sarcastic twenty four year old man. Throughout the series, you will wish to see their progress and their reactions to every single situation. There are no "hot" scenes, but rather, "lukewarm" scenes. The manga also features other minor relationships developing between the side characters apart from focusing only on them.
The art was average. Not that great I would say but rather it was like any other manga, not downright terrible. The thing that it has too many dialogues on one page annoyed me a bit. I would often find myself skipping the dialogues because it was they were too much all over the page. It would have been great if the chapters had been increased with more number of pages, rather than just trying to fit in everything on a page itself.
Also, the drama and the comedy. Oh god, it was so good. There were scenes in which I literally had tears in my eyes while laughing. It has very good humour, fitting in perfectly well in some serious situations in which it was important to lighten up the mood. The drama was sometimes a bit too much, but it only added to the cuteness of the characters.
Overall, it was great fun reading this. It has been a while since I've read a thriller. Me being a sucker of comedy and thriller, would definetely reccomend it. Though it is not as light as it may seem, you will find yourself enjoying it after some chapters.
