Weathering With You

Makoto Shinkai created yet another world to lose yourself in.

Weathering with you. The plot, characters, sound, animation . . . everything is just magical. The two teenagers, when left in the outside world, trying to act like adults while caring for their loved ones.

I've loved Makoto Shinkai's works since I watched 5cm per second, another masterpeice, three years ago. After seeing the movie, he quickly became my all time favourite.

The one thing that I have never seen in any other animation exept his, are the scenes which feel so real. Shinkai really managed to captivate the hearts of his fans by such amazing animation and depiction. He depicted such dazzling scenes which were simply so Tokyo. Whether it was a crowded street on a rainy day or the crowded chattering cafes or simply a street where people are enjoying their evening walk, it felt so real. 

The film gave me the same heart- squeezing feeling similar to when I was watching Your Name.

The director has beautifully potrayed a young couple, wanting to have live a meaningful life in a city which is suffering from excessive rainfall. The movie not only includes myths and mythological stories but the harsh life the Male Lead, Hodaka has to face. The emotions of a teenage love, which was not a fated one, was so perfectly depicted. As a result, I think the film is lighter compared to Your Name, which  is just based on destiny and fate. 

The theme of the story is not only a sad one. There are bright moments with heart melting melodies playing in the background ranging from faint piano pieces, for sad the sad moments to songs like 'Great Escape' playing loudly. 

But at the same time, it also suffers from some simple issues. Their is no character development throughout the story. The ending, I thought, was rather abrupt, compared to the slow development of the characetrs' relationship. I also felt a whole lot of things were left unexplained which left the audience wondering what they had missed. The ending could've been much better. 

Despite a few plot holes, the movie was honestly very interesting and I enjoyed it very much. It is, yet another film, which will bring you to the point of tears. I repeat, I was a bit dissapointed with the ending but that was all. Overall, it is a very fun, refreshing and unique story which can be watched at all times.
