10 Completed High School Shoujo Animes to binge watch this weekend

Shoujo is such a vast and a popular genre, especially focused on young females. Everyone likes them, right? I mean, of course we can't resist reading fantasies and imagining ourselves in the place of the female lead. You just can't like it. So here I am, presenting you ten completed shoujo mangas to binge read. Yes, they're completed. You won't have to wait for a month for an upcoming episode and can just read all of em in one go!

10. Bokura Ga It

English title: We were there

Summary:

Entering her first year of high school, Takahashi Nanami is filled with the hope of making new friends and having a prefect high school life. She then hears about a famous guy in her class, Yano Motoharo. She does not give him much thought, and at first glance, dislikes him. However, she begins to gradually spend more and more time with him, and realizes how wrong she was to judge him. She develops feelings towards him, and a new love story is started. However, there love is full of challenges as she gets to know more about his past. Nanami struggles desperately for their relationship to work out.

I think it was a bit sad themed yet kinda fulfilling. Its wayy more serious than orange I must say, with hardly a speck of comedy so don't expect any fluffy or cute moments from this one. The storyline was strong, didn't get me captivated at first sight I must say, but you've gotta give it some time so that it just sinks in. The thing I like about this is how it shows all aspects of love. Not every love story has a happy ending, there is bad, painful love too. It did kind of made me blue due to its very unusual yet unique storyline but its worth a try if you're into more mature and serious themes. It contains some pretty mature scenes so please makes sure you're of age before reading it.

9. My Little Monster

Summary:

My Little Monster focuses on the relationship between Shizuku Mizutani, who has absolutely no interests except in studying and her plans for the future, and a boy named Haru Yoshida, who sits next to Shizuku in class but rarely attends school. After Shizuku is tasked with delivering class printouts to Haru's home, she meets Haru, who immediately greets her as a friend, starting their new relationship. Nicknamed "dry ice," Shizuku is renowned as a girl who is emotionless and cold. However, when she meets Haru she is touched by his innocence and his lack of knowledge concerning human relationships. Though known as a violent and uncontrollable monster, Haru is actually kind and gentle. Haru immediately declares his love towards Shizuku, but it takes much longer for Shizuku to realize and accept her own feelings towards Haru. Together, as two previously unsocial beings, they help each other learn how to care for each other and relate with their friends and family.

It's a nice a story altogether. The story was light in my opinion but was rather unique in numerous aspects. The characters are well defined, with Haru's being the most likeable one. Different, peculiar, light and so very humorous, it was a lovely read which made me ride a rollercoaster of emotions.

She explains her solution to him, hoping he would corporate. But to her surprise, he doesn't quite turn out to be the angel he acts like.

This is the perfect story for a binge read. I repeat, PERFECT. The plot, the comedy and the romantic scenes will get you engrossed within a single chapter. AND OMG THE ML!! (yes I'm squealing) Even after two years, whenever I'm down or feeling low- it takes just one episode to get me back to my happy, excited self. And the first episode especially, it had suchhhh great scenes! And yup, he's mine guys (jk lol). It is certainly one of my favourites of all times <3

6. Orange

Her future self asks her to prevent her "biggest regrets", which has something to do with the new transfer student from Tokyo, a boy named Kakeru Naruse. At first skeptical, Naho begins to believe the letters as they accurately predict events. When the letter asks her not to invite Kakeru to go out for the first day, Naho and her friends (Hiroto Suwa, Takako Chino, Saku Hagita and Azusa Murasaka) decide to invite him anyway. Kakeru ends up not attending school for the next two weeks.

My first anime! I remember watching this and being like woaahh like THIS is an anime? What a masterpiece. This is was got me into animes long before my manga journey so of course, it's bound to be good. The storyline's distinct, expressive, captivating and not the usual cliche I would say. It has a bit of a mature theme, but you won't be disappointed I promise. And especially loved all the characters, none of them felt like an extra. They were all focused upon and actually added upto the storyline rather than being there just for the sake of it. Honestly, they made the story much more entertaining.

 5. Ao Haru Ride

English title: Blue Spring Ride

Summary:

Futaba Yoshioka is a 16-year-old high school student who attempts to fit in with her female friends by acting "unfeminine", due to a history her female classmates ostracizing her out of jealousy. As a result, she feels her life is uninteresting. One day, she reunites with Kou Tanaka, her first love who had previously moved to Nagasaki in middle school. Kou, who now uses the surname "Mabuchi", has become a completely different person than she knew back then, as he is now cold and indifferent. When the new school year starts, Futaba decides to make a positive change for herself and volunteers to become the class representative. She is joined by Kou and her classmates, Yuri Makita, Shuko Murao, and Aya Kominato, who all form a bond together.

Again, a classic. Perfect for a start. Its light and cute unlike the first two which were based on a more serious note. Like if you've been into shoujo for a while, I'm sure you've seen this manga pop up a couple of times, or perhaps more than a couple. Every character had a well defined past which told us a lot about their personality portrayed in the show. The story's entertaining, energizing, funny and distinctive which makes it enjoyable.

4. Kaichou wa maid sama

Summary:

Seika High, which was once an all boys school became a co-ed school recently. The school is very popular because of their ill mannered and wild students. The school has a very low girl population even after many years. Ayuzawa Misaki, a female student works very hard in order to gain trust of her teachers and becomes the school's first female president of the school. She hates boys and aims to make the school's girl population go up. She is known throughout the school as the strict, scary, demon, boy-hating president. Despite this, she is flawless in studies as well as sports and co-curriculars. But, there's a twist, she works part time a maid cafe because her mother is extremely sick and she needs to look after her younger sister.
She had been successful in keeping her job as a secret when she is discovered at work by Usui Takumi, the school's popular boy. She assumes that he would tell the entire school about the news but instead, he keeps it to himself. He starts coming to the cafe frequently. But as time passed, she receives all sorts of help from Usui and her hate slowly turns into affection bit by bit.

This is such a great story! It's one of my favourites. And omg you just can't dislike usui takumi. Like he's perfect. PERFECT, I repeat. So go on, read it. Its a classic. I was a bit hesitant to start this one cause of its unusual storyline but because it's extremely famous, I went ahead. Didn't disappoint me at all. The animations and the graphics were not that attractive but you cannot expect something grand out of an anime published 12 years ago after all. If the story's nice, I don't think anyone cares about anything else. The story was neither too long nor too short without any unnecessary scenes which made it much more satisfying. And yes, you just can not like this one. <3

3.Kamisama Hajimemashita

Summary:

Nanami used to live in a ramshackle apartment with her father - a man who spent half his time gambling and the other half hiding from debt collectors - until one day the scoundrel ran away, leaving his daughter hungry and homeless. That is, until she meets a mysterious stranger in the park who deems her the new goddess of a local shrine! Unfortunately, Nanami’s new home is occupied by Tomoe, a fox familiar who objects to the presence of a mere mortal and immediately begins to bicker with the girl. If she can manage to form a contract with the troublesome man, he’ll be obligated to accept and help her perform her duties. But there’s a catch: Nanami has to kiss him first, and who’d want to lock lips with that awful guy?!

This anime is easily one of the most hilarious ones out there. It had me a bit worried as it was both- romance and supernatural but boy, I  didn't expect it to be this good. This anime will surely not disappoint in terms of comedy and certainly not in terms of romance. The ending was, well, something I wasn't expecting but nonetheless, I was quite happy with this one overall. The female lead, at first glance, may seem ordinary but has a unique personality which charms our male lead, Tomoe. He's the cold, tsundere type at first but it gets better afterwards. It further leads to the expansion of both their knowledge as they step into each others' worlds, invariably causing drama.

2.Kimi Ni Todoke

English title: From me to you

                                                  Summary:

Sawako Kuronuma is just like any other high school girl who wants to make friends and be useful. The only problem is she bears a worrying resemblance to Sadako from 'The Ring!' Because of her reputation, people are not only terrified of her, but small dogs even bark in fear at her presence; in fact, the only person in school who will talk to her is the lively class hottie, Kazehaya. As the pair spends more time together, Kazehaya slowly begins to bring Sawako out of her shell and soon their feelings for each other develop further. Though with her crippling insecurities, lack of social skills, and a series of cruel rumors and misunderstandings, it seems that Sawako's dream of a normal life won’t be quite so easy to obtain.

As the anime was release way back in 2006, the animations and the graphics are quite out dated and old. Tbh, the graphics don't really affect me as long as the characters and story line's strong. This anime had everything! Comedy, Drama, and the fluffy moments between out two main leads, it was just amazing! I really enjoyed myself while watching this. The female lead has a strong sense of responsibility and is socially awkward while our male lead Kazehaya is the total opposite! Outgoing, dashing, friendly. As its said, opposites attract! There is a heap of misunderstandings between the two at first and is slowly sorted out through the course of the anime. It was more of a slow burn I suppose so some of you may not find this one that great. Despite being more than a decade old, the story's better than most of the new romance animes out there.

Genres: Romance, Comedy, Slice Of Life

Number of episodes: 25 (s1) and 13 (s2)

1. Suki-tte Ii na yo

Summary:

Mei Tachibana has no friends—and she doesn't need them! Ever since her "friends" betrayed her in elementary school, she's sworn off friendship entirely. All it leads to is betrayal and heartbreak, and she's well enough on her own. But everything changes when she accidentally roundhouse kicks the most popular boy in school! However, Yamato Kurosawa isn't angry in the slightest—in fact, he thinks his ordinary life could use an unusual girl like Mei! He won't take no for an answer, and soon Mei and Yamato embark on an unwanted friendship that will change both of them forever.

This is certainly the most realistic anime I've ever come across. It has everything! From jealousy, to pure love and a love triangle. Showing all characters' point of view, it is not one in which you can always favour the female lead, sometimes you gotta pick sides. I really really loved megumi, a side character. Like she's not even the main character and didn't even appear much but in the manga where the story continues there was a bit about her part and omg I fell in love. Seriously. When you first see her you'll think aah why her why was moonlight blabbing on about such a useless character but idk maybe its just me ://
Anyway, the male lead's kinda a dick in the starting but there's some character development there. He gets better during the course of the story with mei and becomes a better person in general. Not much to say about mei, the female lead. Like she was too shy and cold in the beginning whuch intrigues our ml's interest in her. To be very honest, I wasn't that huge of a fan for mei but at the same time she wasn't all that bad.
